Get my eBook guide to answer this very question: “Is Nursing the Right Career
for Me?” (Milotree sales page link)
So is this you? Sitting in a cubicle daydreaming about doing something different? Do
you think nursing is it? Don’t worry about your age. It is hardly ever too late to go back
to school to become a nurse. And I can guarantee 100% job security for the rest of your
life. With an RN license you can do sooooo many different things! So let’s talk about it.
For whatever reason you have a desire to become a nurse and to help people. Your
nurturing self needs it. So listen to that gut feeling, harness it and let it drive you to
becoming a member of the most trusted profession.
But are you wondering…
How do I actually do this?
How do I start the process of looking for a school?
What type of nurse?
Where do I go to school?
My advice is to start with your heart. Sounds cheesy, I know. But really, what I mean is
to really search your soul for what brings you joy in life or what do you love to do?
Think of times in your life when you felt most happy. What were you doing? Was it
helping someone? Helping your family? Do you love making people feel better? Do you
strive to bring peace to stressful situations? Do you have a giving nature? Just think if
you could get paid to do what you love!
These are perfect questions to be asking. I would start by keeping a journal. Get all your
thoughts out of your head and down on paper so you can seem them. Write down your
soul searching sessions and those late night tossing and turning episodes when your
mind can’t get quiet. Get up, grab your journal or some paper and write down your
thoughts. Sure it is easy to grab your phone and narrate your thoughts as well but there
is something about seeing it on paper that can be very helpful. Anyway, make a list or
diagram (think vision board!) of some sort but just get it down on paper and out of your
head. Post it somewhere you will look at it often. This will help, I promise!
I did this myself. I had a journal. I made a list of life experiences when I felt truly happy.
After some time, I started to notice a common theme began to emerge….I liked helping
others. That was essentially it. At my job I helped our professor with his research. I
contributed to pot lucks. I volunteered at my church and at the cancer hospital. I even
took a second part time job helping an elderly gentleman as a personal assistant. His
wife had cancer and his previous personal assistant left for college. It was during these
times of contributing and giving to others that I was happy and calm. Those are some
examples of mine, so of course you will have your own unique life experiences that
bring you joy. Write them down!
